Write for us
Active Music Review welcomes proposals that help readers think more clearly about making music. Send a concise pitch through the Contact page, choosing the editorial question option and describing the idea, its reader takeaway and your relevant experience with the subject.
What we welcome
We consider original, focused pieces about rhythm, songwriting, playing, ensemble work and rehearsal. Useful pitches explain a musical idea through a specific question, comparison, decision or creative exercise. We welcome varied musical traditions and approaches, with enough context for readers outside a specialist circle.
What makes a strong pitch
Tell us what the piece will help a reader notice, choose or try, and why the subject suits Active Music Review. Include a working title, a short outline and any sources or examples you expect to rely on. A clear, manageable angle is stronger than a broad survey; avoid claims that require unsupported expertise or risky instruction.
Sending and editing
Use the Contact page to send proposals; please do not submit a complete manuscript unless requested. We may edit accepted work for accuracy, clarity, length and house style, and we will discuss meaningful changes with the contributor. Sending a pitch does not guarantee publication.
Music gets interesting when you join in
Active Music Review is for people who want to make music, not just read about it. We focus on choices you can try, hear and adapt to your own practice.
